ATLAS SUPPLY CO. · FREE SHOPPING GUIDE · POLICY CHECKED OCTOBER 21, 2026
You bought something from Best Buy. Then its advertised price changed—possibly during a holiday sale. Can you ask for the difference? Sometimes, but the answer depends on who reduced the price, which item you bought, your return/exchange window, and whether an exclusion applies.
Want a starting point? Use the free ATLAS Price Drop Check to review dates, retailer rules, and the advertised difference. It requires manual inputs, does not retrieve live prices or submit requests, and cannot guarantee an adjustment.
Does Best Buy adjust its own price after you buy?
Best Buy's current Price Match Guarantee says that if Best Buy lowers its own in-store, app, or online price during your applicable return and exchange period, you may request a match to its lower price. There is no single universal number of days to assume for every item and every customer: check the return/exchange period for your specific purchase.
For BestBuy.com orders, Best Buy says price-match requests can be handled through online chat or by phone, with the purchaser providing details of the lower price still in effect. For store purchases, ask the store's customer service team. Best Buy determines whether a request qualifies.
Does every Black Friday deal qualify?
No. The official policy effective September 2, 2026 lists important exclusions, including items denoted as Black Friday pricing, certain limited-quantity or time-limited offers, and specific competing-retailer prices during the Thursday-before-Thanksgiving-through-Monday-after-Thanksgiving period.
A lower price around Thanksgiving is therefore not automatic evidence that an eligible post-purchase price match exists. A price reduction by Best Buy itself and an offer from a competitor can be treated differently, and the detailed exclusions still apply.
Five questions to ask before requesting an adjustment
- Is it still the same item? The product should match the eligible brand, model, color, and condition requirements—not a different variant or refurbished offer.
- Is it Best Buy's own current price? First-party Best Buy reductions during the applicable return/exchange window may have a different analysis from competitor-price matching.
- Are you inside the return/exchange window? Look at your order's actual terms rather than assuming all purchases use the same deadline.
- Does the specific sale have an exclusion? Check whether the listing is labeled Black Friday, clearance, a special daily/hourly promotion, a membership-only discount, or another excluded offer.
- Can Best Buy verify it right now? A historical screenshot may not establish a current eligible offer. Best Buy evaluates the current qualifying price and availability.
Illustrative example: price changed after checkout
Imagine a qualifying new item purchased from Best Buy for $299.99 and later advertised by Best Buy for $269.99. The potential difference is $30.00. That is an example of a price worth reviewing, not a verified adjustment or refund. Whether you qualify depends on the purchase's deadline and every relevant exclusion.
Where to read the official rules
Review the Best Buy Price Match Guarantee, including the exclusion list and current guidance for phone, online, or store purchases. Best Buy says its policy can change, so its official terms always control.
What about automatic reminders?
That is the idea behind ATLAS Price Watch: a proposed optional subscription intended to monitor supported eligible purchases and alert shoppers to possible price changes before relevant deadlines. Price Watch is still in development; paid subscriptions, automatic retailer-price retrieval, and customer alerts are not active.
If you want to help decide what gets built, use our Price Watch research page. Our existing Price Drop Check remains free.
Questions shoppers ask
Does a lower Best Buy price mean I automatically get a refund?
No. Any requested match is reviewed under the current policy and the purchase's eligibility.
What if a competitor has the lower price?
Best Buy has a separate set of qualified-competitor conditions. Marketplace sellers, some promotions and holiday offers are excluded; check the full official policy.
Can the free checker tell me whether Best Buy's current price is lower?
No. You must enter the price information yourself. The free checker explains simplified eligibility and possible next steps; it cannot retrieve or verify live prices.
