You bought something, then saw it advertised for less. Can you get back the difference? Sometimes. The original retailer's rules, product match, purchase date, and current offer determine whether it's worth asking.

Six things to check first
- Seller: Was the item sold directly by the retailer or by a third-party marketplace merchant?
- Identical product: Match brand, model, condition, size, color, and quantity.
- Purchase date: Post-purchase adjustment windows can be short and separate from general return rights.
- Current price: Verify a live lower price that applies to your purchase and isn't expired.
- Exclusions: Clearance, marketplace items, special promotions, and holiday offers can change eligibility.
- Original retailer: Ask them to review the lower price. Only the retailer can confirm or deny the adjustment.
Target: some price drops may qualify within 14 days
Target's official price-match policy allows requests at purchase or up to 14 days afterward for qualifying identical items priced lower at Target.com, Target stores, or eligible automatically applied Target Circle deals. Target must verify the price and original receipt or order evidence. Terms, seller exclusions, and product-identity checks apply.
For a store purchase, the policy points shoppers toward in-store Guest Services. For Target.com and app orders, follow its online or phone assistance directions. A screenshot by itself doesn't necessarily establish eligibility.

Best Buy: its own lower price during the return window may qualify
Best Buy's published guarantee says if Best Buy itself lowers the price during an eligible purchase's return-and-exchange period, a customer may request a price adjustment. This is different from a guarantee that any online competitor's later price will qualify. Check your exact applicable return period, and review marketplace, clearance, open-box, Black Friday, and other exclusions.
Best Buy may require contact through chat, phone, order details, or store staff depending on how the purchase was made. Match the original product and verify the current lower offer.

Walmart.com: later online price drops aren't generally matched
Walmart's official published policy excludes Walmart.com purchases that later decrease in price. A subsequent online discount therefore does not automatically qualify for a Walmart.com price adjustment. Walmart says its physical-store matching rules differ; returns are a separate policy and should not be assumed to work as a price adjustment.
