Buying something and seeing it advertised for less a few days later is frustrating. If the purchase was at Target, it may be worth checking before the adjustment window closes. The important distinction is that Target's current guarantee generally provides 14 days for qualifying matches to Target's own prices, not an unrestricted promise to match any store or any promotion.

How long after a Target purchase can you ask for a price match?
Target's current price-match guarantee generally allows a request at purchase or within 14 days afterward when the exact qualifying item is advertised at a lower eligible price through Target.com, Target stores, or an eligible automatic Target Circle deal. Target verifies the current lower price and can decline a match if the item or promotion does not meet the policy.
Do not assume the last day of the window means approval is guaranteed. Target must be able to verify the qualifying lower price when the request is made. Exclusions and original-purchase evidence still apply.
Before requesting an adjustment, check five things
- Exact item: Match the product's brand, model, size, color, weight, quantity and condition. A similar-looking item is not automatically identical.
- Target store versus Target.com: Target generally permits certain matches between Target.com and the current store, but an in-store purchase cannot use a lower price from an unrelated Target store.
- Original proof: A receipt, packing slip or equivalent accepted original-purchase evidence is generally required when asking for an adjustment after purchase.
- Active price, not a screenshot: Target says photos and screenshots are not accepted as proof. The team must verify the current applicable listing or digital ad.
- Exclusions: Clearance, closeout, certain coupons, Target GiftCard promotions and other restricted offers may not qualify. Read the official policy for all exceptions.
What if I bought from a Target Plus Partner?
Target Plus Partner products have a separate matching rule. An eligible Target Plus item generally must be the same product sold by the same Target Plus Partner, within the specified 14-day window. A lower price for a Target-sold item is not automatically interchangeable with a Target Plus Partner item, and one partner's price is not necessarily eligible against a different partner.
A fictional example
You purchase an eligible identical item directly from Target for $129.99. Six days later, Target's qualifying current price is $109.99. The observed difference is $20.00. That difference may justify a policy review; it is not an approved price adjustment or a claim of actual customer savings.
Where do I make a Target request?
For an eligible in-store purchase, Target directs shoppers to the store's Guest Services with the original purchase record and verifiable lower price. For Target.com or app orders, Target directs customers to online chat or Guest Services at 1-800-591-3869. Only Target can approve a request.
Always refer to the current Target Price Match Guarantee rather than assuming any third-party calculator has final authority.
